Due to its strategic location in the central North Atlantic, the Azores archipelago is a naturally good area for whale and dolphin encounters. Whale watching tours are educationally oriented and led by marine biologists. Tours run daily, twice a day.

About 25 species of cetaceans are reported to Azores’ waters. Blue, fin, humpback and sei whales are best sighted during spring months (February to June); sperm whales and dolphins are present all year-round.
